Show Spoiler

From a street urchin in the bustling streets of ancient Persia, the young orphan, Dastan, finds himself adopted by the righteous King Sharaman for the bravery and his regal heart. Nearly two decades later, an unfounded rumour of arms dealing in the neighbouring sacred city of Alamut will put the young Prince in charge of a mighty siege, as the beautiful Princess Tamina–holder of the mystical device, the Dagger of Time–is taken hostage. However, the unforeseen calamity of King Sharaman's untimely death will have Dastan and Tamina on the run, as the real murderer stays out of sight. Can Prince Dastan prove his innocence and harness the dagger's overwhelming power?
At the height of the Persian Empire's power and influence, the King's adopted son Prince Dastan leads an attack on the sacred city of Alamut under orders from the Crown Prince, Tus, after it is revealed the city may be the source of arms for their enemies. The battle is quickly won and Dastan takes possession of an interesting dagger, one that Alamut's Princess Tamina is keen to recover. Dastan is soon on the run however when his gift to the King poisons him, putting Nizam on the throne. Tamina tells him the importance of the dagger - it can transport the bearer back in time. With his new found weapon, Dastan sets out to change past events and learn the identity of the man who betrayed them and killed his adopted father.
Dastan, the smallest prince of Persia, attacks with his brothers a city which holds a big mystery. While celebrating the victory, he's accused of murdering his father with a poisoned cape so he escapes with the city's princess, seeking justice. In his adventures with the mischievous princess, he will find out a dark secret about his family but also about the city he conquered which together could mean a radical change in history. His task will prove to be even harder because his enemies will throw their best weapons into the fight, hoping to keep him away from the truth and his destiny.

It's a movie which interested me for a long time as I am a fan of the computer games series with the same name and I can say that I wasn't disappointed. It's interesting, full of combat as the games, with a good and entertaining plot which eventually leads to an exciting finale. What I don't like about it is the fact that it doesn't take itself seriously in too many scenes, leaving the impression of a parody and not a serious movie. I don't mind comedy in such a movie but if you exaggerate with it, you can influence it negatively. Also, although its story was overall good and enjoyable, it was a bit too simplistic in some ways, making me lust for something a bit different.

As a whole, it's a movie which told a story I like in a pleasant way but which didn't manage to impress as much as it could have.
Prince of Persia does a decent job of adapting video game to movie, a task previously known to be extremely difficult (see Doom). Gyllenhaal surprises with a solid acting job. Gemma Arterton dazzles the screen with her looks and performs well alongside the abundantly muscular Gyllenhaal playing the orphan Prince Dastan. Richard Croyle, playing Tus, delivers a striking performance that cuts away from his best known role as Jeff in the British sitcom "Coupling". The film doesn't disappoint in bringing plenty of action and parkour-like acrobatics. Don't expect it to win an awards but does entertain for an afternoon. Fans of the game will be pleased with the result of the movie but the large-scale audience will soon lose interest.
Bruckheimer's passably enjoyable, antiquity-themed epic should satisfy its young male core demographic well enough, but won't connect with other auds on the level of Bruckheimer's "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise.
Tamina is essentially the movie version of Farah, with a few subtle differences although her role in the plot is exactly like that of Farah. She is the princess of her realm, and anointed guardian of the Dagger of Time. She does not wield a bow and arrow, instead being more of a diplomat rather than a warrior. Originally, Tamina (Tahmina/Tahmineh) is one of the female characters in the Shahnameh. Her name is mentioned as the wife of Rostam (Persian hero) (Also called Rostam-e-Dastan) and as the daughter of Samanganshah, the sovereign of Samangan. For more information, see here. Nizam is the brother of the king of Persia and the uncle of Dastan (the Prince). There is no Vizier in the movie, however, Nizam essentially is the movie version of the Vizier being that he is the main antagonist and also the chief conspirator in the plot to kill his brother, the king. No. Once the end credits begin to roll, the show is over.
